February Meeting Recap
Tonight we had 30 members and 5 guests in attendance.
Charity projects – 3 nap mats turned in. Nap mats will be delivered to Safe Haven this week.
Name tag challenge – Due in March meeting. Any design, ideas have been posted to the FWMQG Pinterest board. Make your own quilted name tags. Can be any size, shape and color. Lanyard or pin.
Renewals – Reminder to fill out online form with updated information for our information and for the National MQG. Personal information will not be shared with anyone outside of the group.
Through Smile.Amazon.com, $9.12 donated to FWMQG from Black Friday sales to current. If you haven’t already signed up to donate to our guild through purchases you make on Amazon Smile, it takes just a few minutes to set that up.
Charity quilt confirmed arrival in California for QuiltCon.
Maker Bees – Sign up sheet was passed around for members who wanted to participate in the next round of Maker Bee Swap Group.
We have launched a Facebook closed members group renewed members to post tutorials, ideas and any fabric/machines/notions for donation. Use as a way to get to know guild members.
Sewcial dates: Not going to QuiltCon Saturday February 24th from 10 am – 5 pm, Room 219 at UNT Science center.
April 28th – Finish that quilt or mini for the NTQF, Saturday, April 28th from 10am – 5pm. Room TBD. Great chance to add labels and sleeves to festival quilts.
March program – Chris Atwell and Lazara Abernathy will demonstrate how to use rulers on your domestic machine.
April 19th will be Carrie Stratka from Red Velvet quilts will be trunk show.
June meeting will be held on Friday June 22st and speaker is Heather Givens from Crimson Tate. Workshop with Heather Givens will be on Saturday June 23rd. Learn how to make her Paper Airplane quilt.
November is Dora Cary from Orange Dot Quilts.
NTQF discussion – Jenn Haxton and Rhonda McWeddle. Last day to register quilts is March 5th online. Quilts do not have to be finished. Take pictures of what you have, prefer blocks laid out. Can always send in pictures later once top is sewn together. New Tshirts available for $10.00 – Tickets for opening night are $25.00. Doors close at 5pm and reopen at 6:30 for drinks and snack provided. Guest speaker is Marianne Fons. Tickets for the quilt show available through Jenn for $10.00 each.
Our Program tonight was Roll & Draw Dice Game hosted by Jenn – great abstract, creative activity to get out of your own head.
Scrappy Spool SewAlong Free tutorials posted on the website under “Sew Along”. Make as many blocks as you like, as big as you like, either quilt or mini or pillow. Can sew regular spools, aurifil style, or empty. This sew-along is to encourage all members to use scraps from past projects you worked so hard on to remember them. Bring completed blocks to meeting to receive 1 ticket for each block. Completed projects get a few tickets.
