July Recap
We started off our July 20th meeting as usual with our membership, charity and treasurer reports. We had 2 new members in July, bringing our total to 56 members! We also had an article written about us in the Safe Haven newsletter and several thank you notes from charities passed around for members in attendance to read. Additionally, we had 19 pillowcases for Cook Children’s hospital turned in!
An update was given on how the North Texas Quilt Festival was progressing as it was only a month away! We had quite a few mini quilts turned in for the auction and any waiting to be turned in have to be due to Rhonda by August 1st. Festival tickets and festival night tickets were available for purchase with money also going to the guild. It was also decided that the 2017 QuiltCon charity quilt “Cowtown Cosmos” would be raffled off at the close of the festival!
After the close of business, we split into 4 different groups for tutorials around the room!
With the quilt show coming up, Jenn demonstrated her method of putting a hanging sleeve on a quilt for show. Chris taught the Burrito pillowcase method as an easy way to accomplish a pillow case like those we donate to Cook Children’s hospital. Janet taught her easy method of making a tote bag like those we donate to Safe Haven. Finally, Laura taught paper piecing because…once you learn how it’s really fun!!
After all the learning and laughter we had members show and share their amazing works!

Janet showed off her mini being donated to the auction! Rhonda took an awesome class and learned to do these colorful creations. Aren’t you jealous?! Jenn showed her amazing farmhouse creation. I love the little sheep!

Denee’s cute panda mini was destined for the auction block and we drooled over her awesome completed quilt top! Each block was sewed by a member of the guild’s Maker Bees!

Lazara showed off her mini top and her big quilt top! She designed the big top quilt blocks and members of the guild Maker Bee group sewed them up! Between her and Denee’s quilts, it makes you want to join the maker bees doesn’t it?!
